Develop a comprehensive indicator system to measure and assess the active mobility friendliness and readiness at city level.Propose a National Active Mobility Strategy for the policymakers to systematically guide municipal governments.Being engaged throughout the projects, the case cities will also provide valuable inputs for the National Active Mobility Strategy. The project team will work jointly with local institutions to test the Active Mobility Indicator System and provide targeted recommendations for the cities. In collaboration with the implementing partners SinoCarbon and China Academy of Transport Science, the city of Beijing, Chengdu, Foshan, and Xiamen are selected as case cities. Besides electro-mobility, public transport, and shared mobility, active mobility (walking and cycling), as a healthy and most low carbon transport mode, is also high on the agenda of Chinese policymakers. To reduce emissions, the promotion of an integrated, low-carbon, innovative, and technology driven transport sector is set in various top-level policies, such as China’s strong transport nation outline issued in 2019. Emitting about 11% of China’s total CO 2, the transportation sector plays a significant role in achieving China’s climate goals.
